Disney 2009. Used with permission. A major expansion at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Florida will more than double the size of Fantasyland. With two phases scheduled to open in 2012 and 2013, the land will offer richer, more immersive experiences and will introduce a wider array of characters. Instead of simple meet-and-greets, the new mini-lands will envelop guests in the worlds of Disney's classic films and get them involved in hands-on adventures.

To be built on the site of the former Cypress Gardens and scheduled to open in October 2011, the new Legoland Florida will be larger than any of the current four Legolands (including the sole US property, Legoland California). It will offer about 50 rides and shows. Like the other parks, it will be geared to the 12-and-under set, and will feature Lego-themed lands and attractions, many of which will be interactive and include hands-on activities.

Universal Orlando, 2011. Used with permission.An all-new motion simulator attraction based on the hit film, Despicable Me, is headed to Universal Studios Florida, while a reworked Spider-Man, which will be getting a super-dooper HD makeover, is on tap for Islands of Adventure. 
Universal Studios 2008. Used with permission The blockbuster film and toy franchise, Transformers, would seem to be ideally suited for a theme park attraction. It's flashy, it's part of the cultural zeitgeist, it's larger than life, and...it's GIANT ROBOTS! THAT CAN TRANSFORM! In 2012, Universal Studios Hollywood will bring the changeable robots to life. The Transformers oeuvre demands an over-the-top attraction--the kind that Universal Studios, home of Terminator 2:3-D, Jurassic Park-The Ride, and Revenge of the Mummy, is more than capable of delivering. 
SeaWorld Orlando, 2011. Used with permission.Continuing its tradition of combining live animal experiences with themed rides and shows, SeaWorld Orlando has two major attractions coming. In 2012, the park will open TurtleTrek, an exhibit that will include real sea turtles and super-duper virtual turtles presented in glorious 360-degree 3-D. The following year, SeaWorld's penguins will shuffle over to a newly expanded attraction that will feature a ride-through experience.

For its 16th coaster (which will give it the third highest number of thrill machines of any park in the world), Canada's Wonderland will be unleashing a monster of a ride. Get ready for one of the world's tallest and fastest coasters. 
Six Flags, 2011. Used with permission.The world's tallest vertical drop ride will cause hearts to race, armpits to perspire, and Lord knows what other bodily functions at Six Flags Magic Mountain in 2012. It's hard to imagine a more thrilling ride. 
Hersheypark, 2011.Coaster number 12 at Hersheypark is going to be its tallest and fastest yet. Topping out at an even 200 feet, dropping at a precipitous 85 degrees, and reaching speeds up to 75 mph, riders will be rushing headlong towards the sky in the new $25 million hypercoaster, Skyrush, that is set to open in spring 2012.
