Gift Basket Themes & Ideas

Gift basket themes and ideas will vary with the receiver, what they like, what their hobbies are, or maybe it's just an assortment of goodies - a little of everything. Gift baskets are ideal for those on your list that hard to buy for, or you are just not sure what to give them.

Cost of assembling a basket depends on quantity and cost of the items in it. Before buying the basket, have an idea of what types of items it will hold, to help you decide on size. To save money, plan ahead and pick up sale items over several days, until you are ready to assemble your basket. Here are some ideas and themes:

Romantic! Great for an anniversary or anytime

A small bottle of wine, two wine glasses, cork remover, cloth napkins to partially 'envelope' the stemware, candle and a few candies.

For the Cook - or Gadget Lover!

A handful of kitchen gadgets, a chef's knife or slicing and paring knives, a couple of packets of spices or seasonings, garlic press, oven mitts, small recipe book, grater and quality measuring spoons.
For the Baker!

A cookie press, cookie cutters, spatula, cookie lifter, sprinkles or colored sugar, icing tubes, tea towel and a kitchen timer.

For the Senior!

This is one of my favorites to assemble. Choose an assortment of: their favorite teas or coffees, small box of biscuits or crackers, package of envelopes, postal stamps, writing pen, notepad, small napkins, mints, kitchen towel, a classic movie or music, a whisk or spatula, small bottle of wine or ice tea, small jar of jam and individually wrapped candies as basket filler. Remember to chose edibles they can eat if on restricted diets.

For The Coffee or Tea Lover!

Two coffee mugs, 2-3 small packages of specialty coffees or teas, a couple of hot chocolate pouches, and a stainless steel coffee scoop.

A Clothing Care Basket - Great for a Student

Pair of scissors, small notion items like buttons, pins, mending needles, pin cushion, lint catcher, 'fabric care' detergent, can of Static Free, and a small electric 'pill' or fuzz remover.

For the Salad Lover!

Salad tongs or servers, cheese grater, wave slicer, egg slicer, small bottle of olive oil, flavored vinegar, pouches of dressing mix or seasonings, napkins, and 2 to 4 salad bowls.

Finishing Touch For Your Basket:

A nice touch, is to sprinkle individually wrapped candies throughout the items in the basket. Wrapping up a gift basket is actually fun - have a great time doing it, and don't fuss too much on getting it 'just right'. You'll also be amazed at how many small kitchenware items you'll think of adding to it, once you get started. Possibilities are endless!

Alternative Gift Options:

  • Ready-made gift or food baskets. These are usually delightful and very well appreciated. Often you can have them sent directly to the receiver with a gift card attached, which is great for long-distance gifts.
