A Clutch Powers 4-D Adventure- Another attraction with 3-D footage (yup, goofy glasses required) and "4-D" sensory effects such as wind and spritzes of water is set to debut in March.
You know Legos. Most kids have a bucket of the snap-together blocks in their toy chests. Imagine a whole park constructed out of Legos and decked out in its primary colors.
The emphasis here is on the under-12 set. There are the requisite roller coasters (though they are quite tame), but many of the attractions are wildly inventive, hands-on, interactive, Lego-themed creations. One ride, the Knight's Tournament Robocoaster, can be surprisingly potent. It uses robotic arms to flip and toss riders around, but guests choose the level of intensity before they board. Coasters and robotic arms aside, the pace at Legoland is considerably slower than at Disney or Six Flags parks.
The Lego creations are quite intriguing. For example, Miniland features meticulous scale models of U.S. landmarks, like the Statue of Liberty, the White House, the Las Vegas Strip, and a New England harbor, crafted out of Lego blocks. In another area, a 15-foot tall Lego bust of Albert Einstein boasts over 1.1 million bricks alone. In all, over 5,000 Lego models adorn the park.
Many of the attractions are hands-on and quite a few are "kid-powered." Riders aboard the Kid Power Tower use a chain to hoist their vehicles up a 30-foot tower and then let go for an exhilarating free-fall. On the Sky Cruiser monorail, young guests pedal their cars around an elevated track.
Everything is kid-sized, and Legoland accommodates even the youngest children. Most attractions allow kids as young as three to ride solo, and some allow parents to take infants aboard. As many an exasperated parent can attest, public bathrooms can be a tricky proposition for families with youngsters. The park offers individual family restrooms. In some of the stalls, parents can even buckle their kids into a chair equipped with a seat belt next to the adult toilet.
Reinforcing its interactive emphasis, all of Legoland's themed areas include building projects that invite kids to pick up a pile of Lego or Duplo blocks and join in the fun. There are also mazes, shows, an Imagination Zone computer center, and a factory tour.
