The Magic Kingdom Takes Shape
Disney. Used with permission. Disneyland went through many iterations before Walt and his team settled on the hub and spoke layout that has become a classic theme park design. Early on, plans called for a Mickey Mouse park on a small tract of land next to Disney's movie studios in Burbank. When the site moved to the 160-acre former orange grove in Anaheim, Imagineers had more space and tossed around a number of unrealized ideas including Edison Square, Liberty Street, and Holiday Land.
