Coming off of its most successful year in decades, Coney Island is set to get some more love, but not until 2013. Continuing the redevelopment that has brought new rides and new life to the fabled Brooklyn, New York boardwalk, ground broke this week for Steeplechase Plaza, a small park that will be the new home for the B&B Carousell (sic). The classic, hand-carved merry-go-round, which had been delighting Coney Island visitors since 1932 (and dates back even farther to other locations) until it closed in 2005, is being restored and will be placed in an enclosed pavilion for possible year-round operation. Guests will enter the plaza by walking under the iconic Parachute Jump structure. Unfortunately, there are no plans to restore the Parachute Jump ride.
